Express Scripts Network Contracting Analyst in St. Louis, Missouri


The Network Contracting Analyst will drive business results for the Retail Network Operations team by collaborating with internal contacts to support provider network activities and contracting efforts. The Network Contracting Analyst will be responsible for outlining small project and network requirements, deliverables, milestones, timelines, decisions, and status for those items in which they are assigned to and the overall success of such assignments from beginning to end. The Network Contracting Analyst will be expected to work independently with minimal supervision and is expected to work collaboratively within their team when necessary. The Network Contracting Analyst is responsible for the accuracy of any contracts or projects entered into production and ensuring they follow outlined policies and procedures. The Network Contracting Analyst is, in part, responsible for training and development of other team members, and identifying continuous improvement opportunities that drive business value and implementing waste reduction process improvements.

This is neither a client nor provider facing role. The Network Contracting Analyst will be responsible for managing large data sets, analyzing reporting, and implementing and maintaining complex pharmacy network contracts.


  • Review and analyze organizational efforts related to network configurations of varying complexity and ensure intent has met audit requirements. Manages the input, throughput and output of contractual analysis related requirements.
  • Thorough analysis of large data sets requiring comparison of multiple report types to ensure the correct information is submitted into production.
  • Serve as liaison between cross-functional teams and Retail Network Operations platform to ensure compatibility of product requests.
  • Manage tight deadlines for multiple competing priorities, scope, and converging opinions to solution in a timely manner. Responsible for medium sized project / implementation from original concept through system implementation and maintenance, as required.
  • Represent Retail Network Operations, serving as a subject-matter expert (SME) as needed, for medium projects/implementations and specific processes. Collaborate with clients and other internal departments, such as RAM, RCM, CBA, SAM, Network Contracting, Implementation, and Finance.


This position organizes and reports on the implementation of provider networks and other medium sized projects as assigned within the Retail Network Operations team. This position is responsible for ensuring business requirements are properly identified and addressed and that all decisions and setup are properly documented for future use. This position is responsible for verifying medium to large provider contract configuration in ESI systems, knowledge transfer, and successful completion from concept to continual maintenance. The position has a high level of judgment and problem solving as it requires the ability to interact with various teams, in addition to, indirectly managing the work of multiple processors to ensure the implementation/project is completed on time and is overall successful. This position has direct impact on company financials and revenue and client and member satisfaction.


Formal Education and/or Training:

Bachelor’s in Business Administration, or equivalent experience.

Years of Experience:

Without degree 8-10 years experience in a related field or 6-7 years PBM/ healthcare experience.

Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years experience in a related field or Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years PBM/ healthcare experience.

Master’s degree and 2-3 years experience in a related field or Master’s degree and 1-2 years PBM/ healthcare experience.

2+ years project management experience preferred.

Computer or Other Skills:

Intermediate to advanced computer skills required.

Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Outlook required.

Microsoft Excel skills should include compiling aggregate data, data verification using Vlookup, pivot tables, and creating formulas.

2-3 years experience with ESI systems preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Must be able to adapt in a dynamic work environment and indirectly lead teams through changes while maintaining a positive outlook. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and have a demonstrated ability to work with other teams to collaborate, facilitate, and resolve issues and be able to develop customized solutions to meet business requirements. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and excellent organizational skills. Must be able to manage multiple projects and prioritize work for self and others and make independent decisions. Must be able to determine project resources needed, organize and distribute workload, complete work, manage team and timelines to meet deadlines, and document progress on projects as required. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule during peak volume times.
